Ceolmunds Dungeon is rooted in Chelmsley Wood. You'll find us inside Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre in Birmingham (B37 5TL), opposite the indoor markets, right in the heart of the community we're proud to serve.
Chelmsley Wood has a character, a history and a sense of humour all of its own, and we wanted a shop that truly belongs here: a friendly, welcoming place on your doorstep where you can browse comics, manga, trading cards, toys and games without having to travel into the city.
Filling the Void
Manga, comics and tabletop gaming have never been more popular. Communities are coming together at conventions, card expos and gaming events all year round, and with the NEC just down the road the appetite for this culture is undeniable.
Yet North Solihull had a gap: nowhere local for kids and adults alike to browse the latest releases, build a collection, or simply belong to a community that understands the passion.
We started as two friends scheming over our love of comics, manga, collectible cards and gaming. One of us spotted the opportunity and the other had the drive to make it happen. We visited spaces near the NEC and soon settled on the perfect home in Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre.
The Legend of Ceolmund
We wanted to capture the storytelling magic that makes fantasy, comics and tabletop gaming so compelling, and the best source was the folklore right on our doorstep.
Before Chelmsley Wood was built, the ancient Forest of Arden was a place of deep magic. Around the year 1200, a battle-weary, one-eyed Saxon warrior named Ceolmund marched into the dark woods to build a fortified home, but the forest creatures fought back.
Realising he could not win by force, Ceolmund chose peace. Alongside his wife Aebbe, he formed a mighty treaty with the woodland rulers: the Elf of the Hill and Hrothgar, the giant wild boar.
For centuries, legends have spoken of the hidden Helmswood Treasure buried beneath the roots, and of a ghostly Devil Dog who guards it from the shadows.
You have entered Ceolmund's Dungeon. The ancient treaty lives on. Your quest begins now!
Legends on the Walls
Inside the unit, that legend comes to life. Our walls are covered in hand-painted graffiti murals by the artists at Just Names: the misty, moonlit Forest of Arden glowing with colour, the Devil Dog watching from the trees, the wild boars of Hrothgar roaming the riverbank, and the full Legend of Ceolmund unrolled on a giant scroll.
Every wall is a piece of the story, so whether you're here for a new manga volume, a booster box or a board game night, you'll be stepping into the world of Ceolmunds Dungeon.
Painted by Hand
Every tree, ripple and shadow was sprayed by hand, layer by layer, straight onto the wall. Watching the forest grow out of a blank black wall was a highlight of building the unit, and we'd love you to come and see it in person.
Our Pop-Up Stall
While the unit was taking shape, we didn't sit still. We hosted a pop-up stall in Chelmsley Wood Shopping Centre so locals could get a first look at what was coming: plushies, blind bags, collectibles, trading cards and more.

We're Open!
We opened our doors on 31st October with a Grand Opening Cosplay Halloween Party, and it was brilliant. Thank you to everyone who dressed up, played the arcade and came to say hello.
